A Class Act

In the world of sports, heroes come and go.  In the NFL few position players, except for maybe the quarterback, have the ability to "turn the tide" in a big game like a good kicker does.  In San Diego, for the last several years, that man has been Nick Novak. This weekend when the Chargers made their final roster adjustments leading up to week one of the regular season, we learned that  Nick Novak would no longer be wearing the Charger Blue and Gold.  It was a jolt to the system to say the least and I'm still not sure I understand it. At the end of the day, what is done is done.  Nick has been a big part of the Charger success in recent years and in the hearts of the fans will always be a Charger.  Not only is Nick a fan favorite on the field, but much like his late teammate Junior Seau, he is a class act and a much loved and respected member of the community as well.  We wish Nick and his family nothing but the best wherever the future takes them.

Thanks for all the great memories Nick.  You will be missed!

A Few Good People Left In California, Aug.10, 2006

Except for Martiniville (the state of Massachusetts) and the southern half of New York state, most of the rest of America views California as the "Wacko State." Seriously, when you hear about California on the news, it's either illegal immigrants stealing the state, freeway car chases, Michael Jackson's debauchery, people like Scott Petterson, or idiots like Barbra Boxer and Nancy Pelosi.

However, the truth is that there are real Americans that still live in California, that are still fighting the good fight. Not just for California but for the rest of America too. One such example is a non-profit organization in San Diego called the "Warrior Foundation.

Warrior Foundation's mission is to help wounded and disabled military heroes leading the fight in the war against Terror. They vow to assist, honor, and support the soldiers who have so bravely served and sacrificed for our country. They do this in a variety of ways including procuring hard to get items for troops at Balboa Naval Hospital. They have purchased plane tickets for wounded troops so they can visit home over the holidays without having to worry about money. When wounded troops can't travel because of their injuries, they pay for family members to come to San Diego so they can be with their loved ones.

In addition to financial and material contributions from individuals from across the country, the Warrior Foundation has received incredible support from the San Diego business community including small business owners and high powered corporate entities such as Budget Rent A Car and Holiday Inn just to name a couple.

To the Warrior Foundation, it matters not if the "wounded warrior" is a San Diego native. They have provided support for troops and family members from as far away as Ohio. The prevailing attitude is that as long as a wounded military member (or a member of their family) is in San Diego, then they ARE PART OF SAN DIEGO. Check out the audio right here, to hear first hand an example of this All American attitude in action. It's approximately four and a half to five minutes long, but trust me, it's well worth the listen and proved to me that there are still a few good people left in California.

I Want My Country Back PT II, April 17, 2006

For those of you who are interested, here is the complete text of "I Want My Country Back" which I referenced in Saturdays blog. Reading the text version is compelling enough, but listening to the actual audio version will give you goosebumps! If you'd like to give it a listen, here is the link......click here.

“I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK!”-
By Rick Roberts -
760 KFMB AM
I don’t mean to go off on a rant here, but here’s the bottom line, I want my country back.

I want my kids to be able to walk to the store or walk to school without being abducted by some 3-time convicted child molester. And the politically correct powers that be in this country just can’t seem to get over themselves with “CAN’T WE JUST HELP THIS PERSON!” No! You can’t. But they’re let loose to prey on more children.

I want my kids back. I want my country back.

I don’t agree with everything this President does. I’ve never agreed with anything 100% that any President has done or said.

You know, I was very young during the Vietnam War. So I probably missed that thing by a hair. I don’t know whether I would have agreed with that or not at the time. I was too stupid to have an opinion at that point and time even though I thought I did.

I want my country back.

I want some semblance of respect for authority, whether I agree with it all or not.

I want the Boy Scouts to be “boy” scouts, not boy and “we think she’s a girl” scouts. I want Girl Scouts to be “girl” scouts not Girl Scouts and “Bruce.”

I want my country back.

I want to be able to wake up in the morning knowing that I can walk outside without some gang-banger on parole taking my life.

Or being able to go down and purchase a car without having to worry about you know 90% of the parts being made overseas in some sweatshop.

I want my politicians, when they finally do get my vote, to do what the hell they said they were going to do in the first place.

I want the Abramoff’s of the world to be labeled what they…nothing more than organized crime in a better suit.

I want the Hollywood elite to make movies to entertain me. Not use their celebrity to sway me politically one way or the other.

Quite honestly, if you’re a has-been-pseudo-celebrity I want you to go away quietly, so that I can remember you fondly through your “artiste work” that’s left in the archives.

I want people to say something and when they say something look at me in the eye. And mean what they say. Not say what they think I want to hear. And then do what they want to later politically or any other way.

I want to be able to go out and work and make a decent wage and buy a home. Half the people that are listening to me right now can’t even afford to buy a house unless they’re working three jobs.

And I want America to be America. All of those opportunities, all of those things that made her great, I want those returned to the forefront. If you want to come to this country we welcome you with open arms. We simply ask that you abide by our laws. I don’t want you to snub your nose at our laws, then take advantage of our opportunities, and then cling to the constitution most of which you can’t even read because you don’t speak the language.

I want us to secure our borders because the country is worth securing. The people that live here are worth protecting.

I want my country back. I want my children back.

I want some semblance of what this country used to be.

It’s worth protecting. It’s worth defending.

I don’t recognize this country anymore.

Not politically, not philosophically, not spiritually.

Whether you like it or whether you don’t God was a part of building this great nation. To remove him is to take away the very foundation of what this country was all about.

I don’t care about your political correctness!

I don’t want to know your sexual preference!

I could care less about all of that. Stop making it the headline of the day!

That’s not America.

I want my country back!

And the only way I’m ever going to be able to get this country back is if I reach out to the brothers and the sisters that all feel the same way and we say “Hell No! You can’t have our country.”

It’s not for sale! Take the price tag off this country!

Take the price tag off the heads of our children!

Stop it already!

The politically-correct-psychobabble-hug-a-tree-experts ; You are not qualified to release sex offenders back into our neighborhoods.

The southern border, more than any other border, needs to be secured tomorrow. For all those that wish to come to this country to take advantage of her opportunity, to live under a constitution a living document that breathes in and out just like you do, this country is not for sale.

I should know. I’m one of the owners. You can’t sell it without my permission.

I want my country back!

I Want My Country Back!, April 15, 2006

Rick Roberts at KFMB-AM San Diego is crystal clear on this subject. He wants his country back. The conservative Southern California morning show host has developed an on-line petition for the public to sign and tons of additional resources at 760kfmb.com.

Rick says: "Here’s the bottom line, I want my country back. I want my kids to be able to walk to the store or walk to school without being abducted by some 3-time convicted child molester. And I'm tired of the politically correct powers that be in this country who just can’t seem to get past the “CAN’T WE JUST HELP THIS PERSON” mentality! No! You can’t help them. But still, you let them loose to prey on more children. I want my kids back. I want my country back."

Our childrens safety is but one aspect of this portion of the website. There are a number of different topics covered. You can sign the petition irregardless of what state you live in and you can get a free "I Want My Country Back" bumper sticker if you want one. You can also download mp3 files of his actual show podcasts and play them back on your computer at your leisure. In addition to all that, this uncommon display of common sense also includes addresses for our elected leaders across the country, website links, copies of sample letters than you can send to your elected leaders. Again, it doesn't matter if you live in California or not, this website is for all Americans who are tired of elected officials who refuse to do their job. If you are tired of the insanity being passed off as politics in America, then I highly recommend that you check this website out and share it with your friends. I think you just might enjoy what you see and hear.

What do you see as the most important issue facing America? (closed poll)
Immigration 3
Iraq 0
War on Terror 4
