If you're a parent like me (or even if you're a single with neices or nephews), the most cherished part of our lives is our healthy children. Every year though, thousands of parents and children across the United States and around the world are faced with the life and death prospect of childhood cancer. In years past the survival prospects were not good. Today, those survival rates have dramatically improved due in large part to the efforts of the incredible staff at a medical facility in Memphis, Tennessee called St Jude Childrens Research Hospital. They do lifesaving work and research on a daily basis. All of their work, research results, and treatment protocols are also shared where ever there is a need..... All at NO COST to the patient/family. They also hold radiothons every year to cover operating and research costs. You can get a real understanding for what St. Jude does and the impact they have on so many lives just by listening to one of the radiothons. A lot of the stories that come out of St Jude are heartbreaking and uplifting and the same time. That may sound like an odd combination, if you're not familiar with the organization. But if you know about St. Jude and what they do then you know EXACTLY what I mean.
If you would like to listen to a radiothon that is currently on the air out here in California, click the link here , then click the streaming live banner and listen for a few minutes. Then tonight as you tuck your little ones in and wish them a good nights sleep, just remember.........."But for the grace of God."
UPDATE: (SAT 3/11/06) The radiothon concluded last night at 6pm. The grand total for two days was $75,010.52. Thanks to everyone who clicked the links and commented on this posting. The more people who know about St. Jude, the more children that will be helped through this great organization.

Great post Mark!
I got address labels in the mail from them about 2 years ago and I went online to check the joint out, to make sure it was a legit operation.
After perusing the website, I realized I'd heard of it before and seen commercials. I definitely recommend anyone looking for a worthy donation, make it St. Jude.
My sister is a rehab and ED nurse at Phoenix Childrens Hospital and they've worked closely with St. Jude on several occasions. She also donates.

Hi Mark! What a great post.
I listen to WGAR here in Cleveland Ohio. Every year at Thanksgiving time they have a huge fund drive for St. Judes' and currently they (WGAR) along with a couple t.v. stations and some local businesses are giving away a home to someone (they must make a donation to be in the drawing.) St. Judes does so many wonderful things for so many families, at no cost to the families. That is true devotion and dedication by the staff and it's supporters. Thanks for bringing this to the 360 world and to the attention of so many.

Thank you for sharing the work of St. Jude's w/ others. I am just about 40 minutes drive form Memphis, Tn where St. Judes is at. I know for a fact that all the money they get goes to research. I have friends whos children had to go to St. Judes. We always hope and pray we would never get the news of our child being sick and having to go to St Judes. But thank god there is a St Judes. Our schools here where i live they always donate money that they had raised for St. Judes. Every year I make a donation in memery of a child that I know that has been or is a patient there at the hospital. One year I had my girl scout troop collect coloring books and movies for the kids at the hospital. They have great drs there and they treat everyone so great there. Missy is so right this is one great place to donate to.

Our closest friends in Colorado have a son who has Neuroblastoma. It was heartbreaking watching him deteriorate. He most likely will not live much longer. They have taken him to Sloan-Kettering in NYC for treatment the last 2 years. Anytime you can afford to give to organizations that support childhood cancer treatment and care please do.

Hi Mark, Thank You for sharing a post that helps others appreciate what they have on a daily basis - a healthy child. I too am the mother of a special needs child - well, he is 20 now and I have kept him at home. Without all the agencies and organizations supporting parents like me, it would not be possible. So kudos for spreading more awareness :-D
